Strikethrough text,
paste it anywhere.

Convert any text to Unicode strikethrough in one click. Works on Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Discord, Reddit — anywhere that accepts plain text.

Used by social media managers, content creators, and anyone who types for a living. Always free.

Uses Unicode combining characters — works on Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Discord, Reddit, and most platforms.

Strikethrough should be a keystroke, not a workaround.

Crossed-out text is genuinely useful — it signals sarcasm, visible corrections, and irony in a way nothing else quite does. The problem is that most social platforms don't expose it as a formatting option. No button in the Twitter compose window, no keyboard shortcut on Instagram, no markdown trick that works everywhere. Unicode does. A combining character attaches a strike mark to each letter so the result pastes as plain text and renders anywhere — display names, bios, comment boxes, anywhere that accepts text. This tool converts your text to that format instantly.

Built for anyone whose keyboard doesn't have a strikethrough key.

Unicode strikethrough works anywhere plain text does — that's a wider net than most people realize. Here's who uses it.

🐦

Twitter / X Users

Paste strikethrough directly into tweets, replies, and bios — no workarounds, no third-party apps.

📸

Instagram Creators

Add crossed-out text to captions and bios where the platform gives you zero formatting options.

💼

LinkedIn Professionals

Signal edits, corrections, or dry humor in posts and headlines without losing the original text.

🎮

Discord Members

Discord's tilde strikethrough only works in message bodies. Unicode works in display names, statuses, and server nicknames too.

🗨️

Reddit Posters

Works in posts and comments — including apps and clients where markdown strikethrough doesn't render.

✍️

Content Managers

CMS fields, internal tools, comment boxes — if it accepts Unicode text, this works. No plugins required.

Good questions. Simple answers.

How does this actually work?

It uses a Unicode combining character — the "combining long stroke overlay" (U+0336). This character attaches to the preceding letter and renders a horizontal line through it. Because it's part of the text itself rather than a formatting tag, it survives copy-paste into any plain-text field that renders Unicode, which is virtually all of them.

Does it work on every platform?

It works anywhere that renders Unicode text — which includes all major social media, chat apps, and text inputs. A small number of legacy or low-level interfaces may display the combining characters differently, but on any current platform you're fine.

Why doesn't Discord's ~~ strikethrough work in display names?

Discord's native strikethrough syntax is Markdown — it only renders inside message bodies where Markdown is parsed. Display names, server nicknames, and custom statuses are plain text fields. Unicode strikethrough works there because it's part of the character data, not a formatting instruction.

Does this affect screen readers or searchability?

Possibly. Screen readers handle Unicode combining characters inconsistently — some read the text normally, others may announce the characters. For accessibility-critical content, stick to standard formatting where it's available. For social posts and bios, the tradeoff is generally fine.

My team uses a CMS or internal tool. Can we embed this?

Yes — and this is exactly where a custom build makes sense. We can build a white-labeled version of this tool integrated directly into your CMS, internal tooling, or content workflow, so your team has it one click away from wherever they write. Talk to us about a custom build →
